SIOUX FALLS — One person was killed early Saturday morning in a hit-and-run crash in northwestern Sioux Falls.

Shortly before 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, first responders were called to the intersection of West Innovation Street and North Career Avenue — near Maple Street and Interstate 29 — for a report of a crash.

According to Sgt. Joel Dalton, authorities found an adult woman in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. The victim ultimately died at the scene.

On Monday, Dec. 16, police spokesman Sam Clemens confirmed the woman's identity as 28-year-old Veronica Honkamp-Martin, of Sioux Falls.

Though arriving officers initially reported that no suspect vehicle located at the scene, Clemens said Monday that investigators believe they have a positive identification on the suspect vehicle. No arrests have been made, as of midday Monday.

As investigators continue to seek answers, Clemens said it's believed that some people may have witnessed the accident, and called on anyone with information to contact the Sioux Falls Police Department or submit a report to CrimeStoppers.
