SIOUX FALLS — A Sioux Falls man is behind bars after police say he fatally stabbed his boyfriend in northwestern Sioux Falls over the weekend.

Minnehaha County prosecutors on Monday charged 30-year-old Juan Carlos Flores with one count of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal stabbing death of his boyfriend, 30-year-old Alonzo Little, also of Sioux Falls.

The charges stem from just before 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, when a juvenile female related to Little called police to report an assault in the 2500 block of North Aidan Avenue, near Maple Street and Interstate 29.

According to Lt. Aaron Nyberg, arriving officers located Little with apparent stab wounds. He was dead on arrival.

Police in Sioux Falls now say a second suspect wielded a firearm during a weekend shooting at the Empire Mall.

The stabbing is believed to be the result of some sort of domestic dispute, which police say escalated to a use of violence. Law enforcement later found Flores inside Little’s vehicle. He was booked into the Minnehaha County jail by 2 p.m. Saturday.

Nyberg said it’s currently unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the stabbing, as authorities are awaiting the return of chemical tests and Little’s autopsy.

In addition to first-degree murder, Flores was also charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, grand theft of more than $5,000, possession of a stolen vehicle and obstruction of law enforcement.

The Sioux Falls Police Department has investigated more homicides in 2024 than ever before. Here's a look at where those investigations stand.

A court appearance for Flores had not been set as of Monday morning.

A conviction of first-degree murder carries a minimum sentence of life in prison and a maximum sentence of death.

The fatal stabbing of Little marks the city’s 15th homicide in 2024, a record number of cases in a calendar year for the city.
