Sioux Falls woman killed in attempt to cross moving train

Police say the woman was attempting to cross a slow-moving train when she fell and was run over.

SIOUX FALLS — One person was killed Sunday evening while trying to cross a moving train near downtown Sioux Falls.

At approximately 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, police in Sioux Falls were called to the intersection of 8th Street and Weber Avenue for a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a train.

According to witnesses, a 29-year-old Sioux Falls woman jumped onto a slow-moving train in an effort to cross the tracks. The woman fell from the train and was run over.

The woman died at the scene. Law enforcement did not release her name.

The Sioux Falls Police Department continues to investigate.
