South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is President Donald Trump's nominee for secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and at one time was a potential pick for vice president. The confirmation process will begin when the new Congress begins in January, at which time she would resign as governor. Noem was elected as South Dakota's 33rd governor in 2018 after serving four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and four terms in the State Legislature. She is the first woman to serve as governor in the state.
