SIOUX FALLS — The NFL preseason got underway on Thursday with the annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, where the Houston Texans faced the Chicago Bears.

Madison's own Jadon Janke, the former South Dakota State wide receiver, was in uniform for the Texans, the first of many players from South Dakota who will take the field this summer vying for a spot on an NFL roster.

Not all will make it. Some will wind up on practice squads, others have already established themselves as NFL veterans. Some may don the helmet and shoulder pads for the last time if they don't catch on.

There are some interesting connections. In Chargers camp, starting tackle Trey Pipkins played at USF, rookie quarterback Casey Bauman at Augustana, and tight end Zach Heins prepped at Washington.

And in Cleveland, Myles Harden of USD and DyShawn Gales of SDSU are in the same position group room, both going against Pierre Strong in practice.

Here's the complete list of South Dakotans active in the preseason.
